Ethical Considerations in Dividing Fees with Co-Counsel and Among Multiple Clients

In addition to fee agreements between attorney and client, other agreements govern how fees may be divided between attorneys of different firms or among multiple clients represented by the same attorney. Carla, Cheri, and Ben will review the ethical rules and considerations on splitting fees with co-counsel, proportional or disproportional to the work done by each attorney, and splitting fees among clients in the same case, including the rules on aggregate settlement offers and whether an attorney may help clients create a contract among them governing disputes over settlement proceeds.
