The Honorable Craig B. Shaffer has been a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Colorado since January 2001. Magistrate Judge Shaffer graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1976 and received his juris doctor cum laude from Tulane University’s School of Law in 1979. Magistrate Judge Shaffer has been an adjunct faculty member with the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law for the past nine years, teaching courses on pretrial practice and electronic discovery, and has been on the faculty of the Annual ALI/ABA Environmental Litigation Seminar for the last six years. Judge Shaffer serves on the Local Rules Committee for the District of Colorado, the ABA Task Force on Criminal E-Discovery, the Judicial Advisory Board for the Sedona Conference, and the Advisory Board for the Georgetown University Law Center’s Advanced eDiscovery Institute. Judge Shaffer is a frequent presenter at conferences and seminars dealing with electronic discovery in both civil and criminal litigation, including presentations organized by the Sedona Conference Institute, the Federal Judicial Center, BNA, the ABA’s Labor and Employment Law Section, the ABA’s Criminal Justice Section, the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, and Georgetown University Law Center’s Advanced E-Discovery Institute. Judge Shaffer was a contributor to Thomson-Reuter’s E-Discovery for Corporate Counsel, and the author of “Defensible” by What Standard?, The Sedona Conference Journal (Fall 2012) and Motions to Compel from a Judicial Perspective, The Colorado Lawyer (November 2005).
