1 Program with Allegra L. Fishel Starting with "E"
Allegra L. Fishel is the Founder and Executive Director of the Gender Equality Law Center (“GELC”) (www.genderequalitylaw.org), a nonprofit law and advocacy center. Allegra founded GELC in 2015 with the goal of combining a unique blend of litigation and non-litigation advocacy to push for systemic social and legal change on behalf of individuals who experience gender-based discrimination in employment, education and housing. In addition to strategic litigation, over the past three years, GELC helped to pass the New York Paid Family Leave Law, the NYC Salary History Ban and the Stop Sexual Harassment in NYC Law. GELC also provides legal and community-based trainings, of late with an emphasis on sexual harassment employee rights and prevention. Allegra has been litigating sexual harassment cases since the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas Hearings and is part of a generation of civil rights advocates to see the social and legal ramifications of that significant moment. She is encouraged to see the beginning of a social shift that has stemmed from the #Metoo and #Timesup movements and is excited to be representing women and LGBTQ individuals at this time in our history. Before forming GELC, Allegra was Of Counsel at Outten & Golden LLP and a founding partner of Beranbaum, Menken, Ben-Asher & Fishel LLP. Allegra received her J.D. from Boston University and her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
