Curt Surls is a partner with Bornn & Surls in Manhattan Beach, California. He has been practicing in Los Angeles, specializing in employment law, for over 20 years. Mr. Surls started his legal career with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, initially as a law clerk, and later as a staff attorney in the East Los Angeles branch office. Subsequently, he was an attorney with the Oakland civil rights firm then known as Saperstein, Seligman & Mayeda, specializing in employment and civil rights class actions. He also worked for the State of California as counsel to the Director of the Department of Industrial Relations. Mr. Surls is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a nonprofit professional association honoring lawyers whose careers have demonstrated dedication to the welfare of the community and the traditions of the profession. He was also named as a “Southern California Super Lawyer” by Los Angeles Magazine for each of the last several years and was listed among the “Best Lawyers in Southern California” by American Law Media for several years running. Mr. Surls is a frequent speaker and author on employment law topics. He is the incoming Secretary of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and was Chair of the Section’s March 2012 Annual Labor and Employment Law Symposium. He is a former Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Disability Rights Legal Center. He is also a member of the California and National Employment Lawyers Associations (CELA and NELA). He received his J.D. in 1988 from Loyola Law School.
