William (Bill) E. Hartgering has been a full-time mediator & arbitrator since establishing the Chicago JAMS/ ENDISPUTE office in 1982. His experience includes the successful resolution of over a thousand complex matters arising in over 40 states and foreign countries, as well as appointments by federal and state judges in 10 states. The 30 years of neutral practice involve a wide range of Employment ADR experience. Bill has particular expertise in complex matters involving numerous parties, sensitive subject material or high emotion. Clients describe his style as both patient and tenacious: “he really cares whether the matter gets resolved,” “is a quick study, providing both the right measure of facilitative or evaluative input, and the careful preparation and perseverance necessary to bring quality to the process and result,” and as an arbitrator, “is a hot, but not intrusive bench, who does his homework.” A graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, where he was appointed to the Law Review and won the 1974 Moot Court competition, Bill taught negotiation at Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and the School of Law (adjunct professor). Prior to 1982, he practiced law in employment, commercial, and insurance related litigation, representing both plaintiffs & defendants.
