Donna R. Lenhoff is the first full-time Legislative & Public Policy Director of the National Employment Lawyers Association in Washington, D.C. Ms. Lenhoff represents NELA before the Congress and administrative agencies and is the primary staff person implementing NELA’s Working for Change agenda on a day-to-day basis. Prior to joining NELA in 2006, Ms. Lenhoff was a consultant for the Leadership Conference for Civil Rights Education Fund, the Alliance for Justice, and Wider Opportunities for Women; Executive Director of the National Citizens’ Coalition for Nursing Home Reform; the first General Counsel and Director of Work and Family Programs at the National Partnership for Women & Families; and the first Staff Attorney and first Director of Legal Policy and Programs at the Partnership (when it was called the Women’s Legal Defense Fund). She is nationally known for having developed and led the coalition lobbying for the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993. For that success, she was chosen as one of the “25 Most Influential Working Mothers” by Working Mother Magazine in 1997; featured in Conflict and Compromise: How Congress Makes the Law (Simon & Schuster 1995); and profiled in National Journal, “The Driving Force Behind Family Leave.” Ms. Lenhoff has extensive experience in advocating for workers’, women’s and consumers’ rights before all three branches of government. She has also written and spoken widely on these topics. Ms. Lenhoff has her B.A. from the University of Chicago, Phi Beta Kappa, and her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
