Margaret A. Harris is a partner in the law firm Butler & Harris in Houston, Texas, which she founded with her law partner, Kathy Butler, in 1988. Ms. Harris concentrates her law practice on representing individuals in employment disputes, including first amendment retaliation, sexual harassment, and disability, age, race, and gender discrimination matters. She is a member of the Board of Governors of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers, a former Board member and officer of NELA, and a co-founder and former president of the Texas Employment Lawyers Association. Ms. Harris is co-chair of NELA’s Amicus Advisory Council and has co-authored NELA’s amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court in three landmark sexual harassment cases (Harris v. Forklift Systems, Inc., Oncale v. Sundowner Offshore Services, Inc., and Faragher v. City of Boca Raton) as well as authored other amicus briefs on behalf of NELA in the Courts of Appeal in the Eleventh, Fifth, Sixth, and Second Circuits on other employment and employment-related issues. She is a frequent speaker and writer on issues in employment law for such professional groups as ALI-ABA, the Labor & Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, NELA, and the University of Texas, among others. She earned her B.B.A. from the University of Texas and her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Houston in 1981.
