Mr. Kohrman focuses on trial and appellate litigation for older workers, mostly discrimination cases on grounds of age and/or disability, under federal and/or state law. Mr. Kohrman and his colleagues recently filed successful amicus briefs on behalf of AARP urging vigorous enforcement of the ADEA in two cases in which the 8th Circuit reversed summary judgment for the employer. See Hilde v. City of Eveleth, 777 F.3d 998 (8th Cir. 2015); and Tramp v. Associated Underwriters, Inc., 768 F.3d 793 (8th Cir. 2014). Mr. Kohrman and his colleagues also have represented older workers terminated in reductions-in-force at Ford Motor Co., Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Sprint, and credit card issuer Capital One. They have brought other major age bias collective action claims against Allstate, Seagate Technologies, 3M, and health insurer Wellpoint. Before joining AFL in 2001, Mr. Kohrman worked for the U.S. Justice Department, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and the law firm of Hogan & Hartson, where he sued states to require them to contribute to desegregation of urban schools.
