The Honorable Catharina Haynes was appointed by President George W. Bush as a Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in April of 2008. Prior to taking the federal bench, she served for eight years as a Texas district judge in Dallas. She received a B.S. in Psychology with highest honors from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1983. In 1986, she received a J.D. with distinction from the Emory University School of Law. Judge Haynes is board certified in Consumer and Commercial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In addition to her judicial service, Judge Haynes spent 13 years in private practice, including more than five years as a partner and six years as an associate in the Dallas office of Baker Botts L.L.P. She has received awards from
such organizations as the Dallas Bar Association, the DAYL Foundation (of which she is a Founding
Fellow), the Dallas Women Lawyers Association and the Florida Tech Alumni Association. She serves
as a volunteer instructor and board member of the Vickery Meadow Learning Center, a non-profit
dedicated to English literacy for non-native speakers of English. It also provides education to their young children.
