Beth Slavet was appointed Director of the Directorate of Whistleblower Protection Programs on November 19, 2012, and is responsible enforcing the whistleblower provisions of 22 statutes protecting employees who report violations of various airline, commercial motor carrier, consumer product, environmental, financial reform, food safety, health care reform, nuclear, pipeline, worker safety, public transportation agency, maritime, and securities laws. In that role she oversees a regionally-based investigatory program of 115 discrimination investigators and develops agency policy and procedures for administering the program. Previously, Ms. Slavet was counsel to individuals and labor unions in mediation, trial, and appellate employment and labor litigation in courts and before various administrative agencies. Ms. Slavet has served as Chairman, Vice Chairman, and member of the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board managing an independent adjudicative agency with 240 employees in 10 regional offices with jurisdiction over federal employment, retirements, veteran, civil rights, disability, FMLA, and whistleblower and Hatch Act issues affecting a workforce of three million. Ms. Slavet also served as Labor Counsel, Labor and Human Resources Committee, U.S. Senate, where she proposed and implemented legislative strategy; drafted statutory and Committee report language, floor statements, and speeches; planned and managed Committee hearings; and analyzed legislation.
