Jerry E. Martin was appointed by President Obama as the United States Attorney in the Middle District of Tennessee. During his tenure, he made fighting fraud on the government a top priority due to the fact that six of the ten largest hospital corporations are headquartered in Nashville and billions of Medicare/Medicaid dollars flow through the region. Mr. Martin rapidly expanded the number of attorneys in his office handling False Claims Act cases and immediately began returning money to the federal health care programs. Attorney General Holder took note of Mr. Martin’s work, and he was named co-chair of the Attorney General Advisory Committee’s Health Care Fraud Working Group. Mr. Martin has been active member of NELA and represented employees in individual and collective actions for a number of years. Prior to being sworn in as U.S. Attorney, he lead an FLSA collective action jury trial against a poultry plant in which the jury found the employer had willfully violated the FLSA by failing to pay the plaintiffs all the overtime that was due and owing. Mr. Martin focuses his practice on representing whistleblowers in False Claims Act litigation and in proceedings before the SEC and IRS. Additionally, he continues to represent employees in FLSA and other litigation. Mr. Martin grew up in Bell Buckle, Tennessee (pop. 400). He received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his law degree from Stanford University.
