Kathleen J. England, a Boston native and a 1975 cum laude graduate of Michigan State and a 1978 graduate of Suffolk University Law School, actually started her legal career in the Las Vegas City Attorney’s office. She went into private practice with Vargas & Bartlett in 1982, has practiced with a number of firms in Las Vegas and is now at her own firm. Ms. England has handled a wide variety of cases. Early in her career, she chaired the Defendants’ Settlement Committee in the MGM Grand Fire Litigation and defended state legislators in election challenges. Ms. England helped to found the Young Lawyer’s Section, was appointed to the Nevada Supreme Court’s Gender Bias Task Force, was the first Chair of Las Vegas’ Ethics Review Board, co-chaired a Law Day house-build project with Habitat and chaired the State Bar’s Character & Fitness Committee. Ms. England served on the Nevada State Bar Board of Governors for ten years and was President of the Nevada State Bar from June 2009 to June 2010. The NV Supreme Court has appointed her to a number of commissions as well as one of its settlement judges. She has co-chaired committees researching and producing issues of the Nevada Lawyer documenting the contributions of women attorneys and African-American attorneys in Nevada. Currently, she is a member of Nevada Inn of Court. Ms. England’s discrimination clients have won substantial judgments (U.S. Postal Service) and federal jury verdicts against NV Department of Prisons, SAKS Fifth Avenue, and Clark County Department of Aviation. She is active in many community organizations (Girl Scouts, homeless shelter, rape crisis shelter) and has received many honors and awards. For the past twenty years, Ms. England’s civil litigation practice has been devoted to representing victims of discrimination and sexual violence.
