R. Scott Oswald is the Managing Principal of The Employment Law Group. Scott concentrates his practice in representing individual plaintiffs in whistleblower, qui tam, and employment rights litigation. He has extensive jury trial experience litigating FMLA, ADA, Title VII, whistleblower, and other common law and statutory employment claims. Scott is the 2011 President of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association. He is a member of NELA’s Executive Compensation and Whistleblower Practice Groups. Scott has authored amicus curiae briefs for NELA, MWELA, and the Public Justice Center, among others on discrimination and whistleblower protections and is active in efforts at the national and state level to strengthen legal protections for whistleblowers. Mr. Oswald is a graduate of The University of Virginia and received his law degree from The Howard University School of Law. In March 2010, Scott tried the FMLA retaliation case, Breeden v. Novartis Pha rmaceutical Corp., which resulted in a $579,338 judgment for the plaintiff. In October 2009, Scott trial a DCWPA retaliation case, Browne v. UDC, which resulted in a $282,000 judgment for the plaintiff. In 2008, Scott tried the Title VII/Montgomery County, Maryland Human Rights Act case, Sterling v. Atlantic Automotive, which resulted in a $1,000,000 judgment for the plaintiff.
