Geraldine Sumter has been practicing employment discrimination law since 1983 with the Charlotte, North Carolina firm of Ferguson, Stein, Chambers, Adkins, Gresham & Sumter, P.A. Eighty percent of her work is devoted to the area of employment discrimination. Ms. Sumter has represented plaintiffs in individual as well as class action cases. She has served as Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Council and Chair of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers Employment Law Section. She is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association and Co-Chair of its Race Discrimination Committee. Ms. Sumter is a frequent speaker on employment discrimination law including programs sponsored by the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc., Cooperating Lawyers Training Institute, the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers. She has also served as a faculty member in a program sponsored by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Ms. Sumter is a graduate of Howard University and the Duke University School of Law.
